Checklist for UFO Watchers

Checklist for UFO Watchers

Checklist for UFO Watchers

There is a very interesting post on the blog listed below for people who are interested in UFOs or are amateur UFO hunters. Listed are several checkpoints for people who believe they have witnessed a UFO sighting.

The checklist helps people who may have had UFO sightings decide if they have witnessed a genuine UFO sighting or some other type of object in the sky. Often times, people mistake unintentionally objects such as planets, stars balloons and even satellites for UFOs.

The checklist, offers a comprehensive way of helping individuals decide whether it is a UFO or something more down to earth.

“So you see an odd object in the sky. You think “UFO!”. Not so fast.
What you’re seeing may be something completely mundane. Many times Planets, stars, satellites, balloons (weather and hot air), and other things are regularly mistaken for UFO’s. Only if you eliminate all mundane possibilities can an object truly be called a UFO.”

Meteor Or UFO

Meteor Or UFO

A bright light recorded by a police dashboard camera, and witnessed in Texas, parts of Oklahoma and Kansas has people asking the question; are UFOs real. The bright light was first witnessed about eight o’clock yesterday night. It was described as being bright greenish blue in color and spherical in appearance.

The Police Department was flooded with phone calls soon afterwards; people thought it was a plane on fire or even a UFO. Technically speaking, it was a UFO because UFO means an unidentified flying object.

Thankfully there were no reports of damage due to the flying object. According to the FAA, since it was witnessed by a large number of people across many miles makes it most likely to be a meteor or some type of space junk, however it’s mostly believed to be a meteor.

According to a report released in September by NASA, the amount of space junk orbiting Earth has reached a critical point. Since Sputnik one was launched, mankind has littered space profusely with estimates of tens of millions of floating debris.

The debris consists of old rockets, satellites, and various shrapnel traveling at speeds of up to 22,000 mph. Of close there is a small contingent of UFO hunters and conspiracists who believe this is a UFO and is just being covered up as usual by the government.

The sighting occurred on the ninth anniversary of the space shuttle Columbia falling to earth over east Texas.

UFO Hunters

UFO Hunters

UFO hunters share the common objective of personally witnessing an UFO event, and just watching pictures or videos of possible UFOs taken by others does not raise their adrenaline levels.

However, UFO hunters need to thoroughly dedicate themselves to this pursuit, as UFO hunting can become quite expensive and time consuming. There are requirements to be met and violation will most likely shorten the UFO hunting career.

The first step is extensive research into all facets related to the subject, such as meteorology, reading star maps, or committing constellations and planets to memory, and familiarity with all aircraft types is also imperative. A sound financial foundation is a prerequisite to undertaking UFO hunting, since the equipment required to perform the task can be economically draining. Emotional issues also cannot be ignored as long hours are the norm and relationships can easily be strained. More often than not, the comforts of home will furthermore have to be forgotten, and outdoors types are usually more suitable for this endeavor.

Honing observation skills is a step that needs to be undertaken by all UFO hunters, a common mistake being to mistake a star for an UFO. To that purpose, it has been recommended that training as a weather spotter will be highly useful, as is joining the Civil Air Patrol, as you will learn about abnormal weather phenomena and the proper identification of configuration of various types of aircraft, along with improving observation skills.

Some Recommended equipment:

* Telescope* Binoculars * Video Camera * Maps * Star charts * Night vision equipment * Thermal imaging machines * Recording equipment

UFO hunters also take star gazing very seriously, as a high proportion of UFO sightings tend to occur after sunset. Of course, getting into the habit of looking up into the sky periodically during the day will help spot daytime occurrences.

Two main types of UFO sightings:

* Waves: small number of UFOs appearing over an extended period of time, sometimes lasting over several months. Prior to a wave, certain indicators will help determine future UFO activity.

* Flaps: large numbers of UFOs visible in a short period of time. This is the more exciting type of event as various sized and shaped UFOs can congregate into one area and formations are usually observed.

Indicators of UFO activity:

* Fast and unidentifiable objects moving across the sky * Flashing lights, either stationary or moving slowly, most commonly seen at high altitudes * Probing objects are very bright lights that can flare up then face down before disappearing over a short distance * Strobing objects can move at high rates of speed while lights are strobing constantly, sometimes at different rates

UFO hunters are very much aware that UFOs can appear at any given moment in time and at any location, therefore it becomes critical to increase the chances of successfully sighting UFOs by relocating to what are considered flap areas that can include the following areas:

* Nevada Highway 375, in the proximity of Rachel, Nevada * Sedona, Arizona * Midway, New Mexico, where the Roswell Rods were first observed * Marfa, Texas, famous for its Marfa Lights that have been reported for almost a century

Patience and persistence are definitely virtues for UFO hunters as UFOs never announce themselves prior to demonstration of their performance. Safety is paramount when witnessing an actual UFO sighting, as is staying calm to accurately record the event in its aftermath.

UFO activity tends to peak during certain time periods such as the 1950s, the 1970s and finally the 1990s. The 2010s seem to be destined to become a busy decade for UFO hunters. Will you be the one that proves ufos are real?

Unidentified Flying Objects

Unidentified Flying Objects

Unidentified Flying Objects

UFO stands for unidentified flying object. A UFO is an object that is sighted in the sky that appears to be abnormal, unusual and cannot be identified as a recognizable object by the observer.

A UFO can be anything that is readily unidentifiable. UFOs are objects that tend to have characteristic and qualities that are unfamiliar and remarkable. They may come in unusual shapes and possess incredible speed, bright light and are able move with agility. Many objects reported as UFOs in the first instance turn out to be identifiable objects, but there are reported sightings of UFOs that are indeed objects that cannot be identified.

The actual term ‘UFO’ is quite new and was first used in 1952 to describe these objects sighted in the sky. Often they have been termed ‘flying saucers’ or ‘flying disks’, due to the appearance of some sighted UFOS,  and alien spacecraft, because of their qualities that make them appear not to be from Earth. Back in the late 19th century and early 20th century sightings of UFOs were reported as ‘mystery airships’, and during World War II the term ‘foo fighters’ was used to describe UFOs by American fighter pilots.

Each year, there are many UFO sightings. The first most publicized sighting of a UFO happened in the United States in 1947 and was reported by Kenneth Arnold, a private pilot. In fact, it was from this incident that the terms ‘flying saucer’ came to the fore to describe UFOs. Many of reported UFO sightings turned out to be mistaken and they turn out to be a man-made object or a natural phenomenon. They turn out to be aircraft, balloons, and different types of clouds, light phenomena like mirages, meteors, comets and planets viewed from afar in the sky. Some UFO sightings can also be the result of hoaxes.

However, there are a small yet still significant number of UFO sightings that have not been explained, and are indeed reports of Unidentified Flying Objects. There at about 5 to 20 per cent of sightings reported that are yet unexplained. Many reports of sightings are from trained observers including pilots and military personnel.  The number of UFO sightings has reportedly been on the ride during recent years, with about 500 sightings being reported each month.

UFOs are generally believed to be objects that are extra-terrestrial in origin. In other words, UFOs are said to be alien spacecraft.  This is because the objects that are sighted as UFOs display unconventional technological characteristics, including the object’s flying qualities and appearance, which neither belongs to a natural phenomenon or human invention. For this reason it is believed that UFOs are not objects from Earth, but rather, from outer space.

Apart from the extra-terrestrial hypothesis on UFOs, there have been other hypotheses including the inter-dimensional hypothesis which claims that UFOs are objects that have crossed over from other dimensions or a parallel universe. There is also the psychosocial hypothesis which accounts for UFO sightings as the result of misinterpretation due to popular culture influences. Another hypothesis is that UFOs are advanced or experimental military aircraft that possess the unique characteristics ascribed to such sightings.
